St. Paul’s Choir School Music Program

Although the choir is the central focus of musical life at the Choir School, the boys also study music theory. The music theory course gives each boy the best possible theoretical understanding of written music, using the world-wide ABRSM music theory course which provides all aspects of music fundamentals. Each boy takes a public exam administrated by the ABRSM every year, so that progress can be measured objectively.

Each boy has a half-hour individual piano lesson each week; supplemental private lessons can also be arranged.  The boys progress incrementally from (often) beginner level to having increased keyboard proficiency. The ABRSM piano course also includes sight-reading and aural skills, so that it links the piano course with the singing focus. ABRSM exams are taken to ensure smooth but graded progress.
