Boys join the Schola Cantorum when their voices start to change. The Schola Cantorum sings Mass at 8 a.m. every first Friday of the month. Although the boys are in the midst of vocal transition, they are keen to discover their adult voices and begin the journey of training these new voices. Because their vocal muscles are developing, we don’t train them hard, but rather seek to set them in the right direction. In addition to these musical activities, the boys serve at the altar at Mass, act as lectors in the church, and train as cantors, song-leaders and in some instances, organists. An extra academic schedule also helps prepare the boys for high school at this time.
